Free Upgrade from ilife 08 to 09

Hi There

Well this is my first post on here, I bought mac pro on saturday at an apple store close by, It has ilife 08 installed. I understand ilife 09 is out now. Should I of had this installed already? Can I upgrade for cheaper?

Just been trying to get used to the operating system as i've just got converted to mac from windows!!
 
I tried that link and it didnt accept my serial number. Did you have the same problem? I also bought my macbook on Saturday. Let me know.

If you didn't buy from an Apple Store they probably just don't have the right record of when you bought your computer. No worries, a phone call to Apple should sort everything out.
 
Im at work so havent had a chance to check it out as my mac pro is at home.

Am I right in thinking thats only for the US apple store to upgrade online? As the UK site says please return back for further details on the 12/1/09

Which as far as im aware is today :(
 
you have to be sure you bought the computer after a certain date. I would recommend a trip back to the store to have a chat with the manger. The salesperson should have told you about the upgrade.

You can also get 30 bucks off iWork 09 when you purchase a new mac. My friend just got a macbook this week and that discount was offered to him.

Do you have to buy the Mac at the Apple store to get that discount on iwork?
 
What I am confused about is that on the iLife 09 site (http://apple.com/ilife) it says that "All part of every new mac". The PR website says that "iLife ’09 is included with every new Mac purchase" (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/01/06ilife.html). Though when I bought my new MacBook Pro last week I have discovered I need to pay more money to get the software I seemed promised. If you go to the MacBook Pro website (http://www.apple.com/macbookpro) and click the 'Mac OS X + iLife' tab and click the link to to go the iLife 09 website which I first mentioned. What a way to nickel and dime customers Apple. If I am not mistaken it was said in the keynote that new macs would be coming with iLife 09.

I have made 4 calls to Apple so far, and nothing. The only thing I have found out is that iLife 09 will not be shipping on new Macs till April, what I was told by a supervisor on one of my calls. Yes that's right, April. So Apple will be having people pay another $10 to upgrade till April.

Not that I can't afford $10, but it's just ridiculous.

No.
If you go to store.apple.com and look when you select any mac, you can add iWork 09 and there is a note there that says, "
Save $30 on iWork ’09 when you buy a new Mac. Just add it to your Mac purchase and save instantly.**"
 
I agree with what you're saying. I bought my macbook pro on Saturday and it came with Ilife 08. But I guess the only reason there is a fee to upgrade is delivery fees?
 
Just complain and they'll give it to you for free, ive had my 15" MBP for 3 months now (i bought it from the Apple store online) and they gave me a free upgrade code to ilife 09 when I went into the Apple store in London.

Just keep asking for the managers managers mananger until you get what you want.

Also complain that you know other people who have been offered a free upgrade and it would be discrimination if they didn't give to you aswell.

You could say ilife had been a deciding factor in your purchasing of the computer and you didn't know the upgrade would be out so soon.

Complain that since the computer cost so much and due recession you dont have enough money to feed your family let alone pay for ilife 09. So unless Apple gives you iLife 09 for free your family's going to starve. (i personally didnt try that one but i bet it would work :p)

If I buy a mac from another store, for example john lewis, am I included in this promotion?

I can also confirm it works mine was purchased online at onsale.com.

I bought my macbook alum back in Nov 2k8 and just now getting around to registering it LOL they gave me 6 months free sub to Macworld no CC required.

:D I went to the link for Ilife upgrade and just picked a date of purchase in Feb 2K9 entered my serial and Viola got it for $9.95.

So Thanks for the info it got me a free sub and saved lots on the new ilife.
