I'm about to take the new colbert challange what are the best free video and audio editors?

What's wrong with them?

If you don't have a very recent Mac, then they're not free.

For example, while my primary machine came with them, my secondary is a Blue & White G3 that's been well upgraded. It didn't come with *ANY* of the 'iLife' software, so the only one I have on it is iTunes.

My old PowerBook G4 only came with iLife '03, so unless I paid money (again, not 'free',) all I would have is an old iPhoto and iMovie. No Garage Band.

There is very little good free video editing software out there, but as for audio software, Audacity is pretty good, for free (both 'as in beer' and 'as in speech', as it's open-source.)

edit: A quick search reveals Jahshaka, an open-source video editing suite that is available for OS X. I haven't played with it, though, so I can't comment on how good it is.
