FreeAgent go drive power supply

Hi,

I consider buying the freeagent go drive but noticed the dual headed usb cable. Is it really nescessary to use that cable?
Because I have only 2 usb ports in my mbp that would not be a great solution.

It will run just fine on your MacBook Pro with only the data cable connected. The Y cable is for low-power USB ports.

Is it like that with all drives or is the freeagent go above average power consumpting?

Where do I find these low power usb ports? on older computers only?

All bus-powered USB drives that I know of have the Y cable.

Yes, you will likely only find low-power USB ports on older computers, and perhaps some hubs.

The WD Passport drives do not have a Y-cable, at least the ones that I have bought have not had it.

Ah yes, I remember running into that in the past. You have to call them and have them send one out to you. I think you pay something like $5 for it.
