freedompop photon - worth it?

Groupon has the Freedompop Photon for $18 and I was thinking about whether or not to buy it. With WiMax slated to shutdown at the end of 2015 ... not sure if it's worth the buy.

Thoughts?

Well, let me rephrase your question back to you.

Assuming WiMax sticks around through December, would you be willing to pay $18 once for 500MB of 4G data every month for the next 20 months? That's less than a buck a month.

I use a Karma wireless hotspot and I can't sing its praises enough. This afternoon, I'm grabbing my laptop and my hotspot and working from the seashore.

hmm .. maybe I should wait it out until I get LTE coverage in my area then?

It depends on when they're pushing out their LTE hotspot. I know Karma was talking about having theirs out this summer, with some kind of a discount for people who already have a 4G one.

You'll probably pay a lot more than $18, but if the extra speed & longevity is important for you it's something to consider.

i did some more research on freedompop and their coverage .. looks like my location only has 3G available and not 4G ... guess this plan goes down the drain
