I'm at a loss. Wondering if anyone's got some insight...

Started the download and install of Mavericks from the software update option in the system menu (opens App Store). It downloaded fine, began installing fine, but is now kindly informing me after a few mins into install, that my disk is too full (7GB free) I apparently hadn't moved a bunch of stuff off onto my backup external...

Now I can't figure out how to get out of the install and boot to the existing install to free space up. It just reboots to the install. Can't unmount or eject the install volume in disk utility either...

Any ideas?

Thanks
