Freezing after sleeping

my mid 2010 macbook pro freezes sometimes if i leave it open or when i open the lid. The screen stays black, keyboard does illuminate but screen stays black even if i close and open the lid a couple times. I am running lion and have all the lastest updates. Please help thanks!

I can't tell you the exact problem but this happened to my previous macbook pro.I would just turn up the brightness that solved the black screen

under energy preferences i unchecked the box to put hard disks to sleep when possible and it hasnt happened since, weird because im running oem apple drive too.
