Hi all,

My MBP has a problem where it freezes and becomes unresponsive. Sometimes I have notices that the screen flickers and shows some strange colours before it freezes, other times it just freezes. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Luckily it is still under apple care.

Thanks

Matt

Your GPU is in its death throes, which is becoming an increasingly common issue on these machines. Nothing you can do except call Apple or make an appointment at a store. The logic board will need replacing.

It's the infamous 2011 MBP GPU failure.

I'm also on an early-2011 15" (2.3GHz, 16GB RAM, 512GB 840 Pro and 1GB 6750M, AG screen), but it's got no issues yet. I hope it can last until Apple officially issues an extended repair program.
