Lately, my macbook has been freezing up very often while not connected to the power.

It's 15" early 2011 model macbook pro.

When it freezes, it usually makes beeping noise, but sometimes doesn't even make any noise and just freezes. I usually force it to shut down by pressing on the power button. It's always when the machine is not connected to the power, and the bottom of the macbook is quite warm. Is it to do with the ventilation?

how many beeps does it usually give? You can do an apple hardware test so it can tell you what exactly is the issue.
Download istats to keep a check on your temperature readings.

as soon as you press the power button to start the mac hold d till you see internet recovery. Proceed with the onscreen instructions. You may need to choose a network. or else use the second disc which came with the mac it will be written hardware test with instructions on how to access it.
