Hi all,

Trust you're all safe and well?

I've finally gotten around to sorting my old (2015) MBP out. Going to give it to my mum.

I've just done the disc utility and erased the Macintosh HD disk and gone to install a fresh copy of OS. It says that there is only 70GB free of the 121:12GB hard drive. Is this normal or has the format/erase not worked? I've not restarted since earsing so not sure if that's the issue.

Should I restart it after the erasing of the HD? I've attached a picture to show what I mean.

Any help would be great!

Thank you!

Ben

Okay, so I've offically messed up! I restarted it, there was nothing there and had to start the recovery process from the web (the spinning globe). I've got that far but when I select install OSX it doesn't give a location to select... What do I do now? I could kick myself!

1. Power down, all the way off
2. Boot to internet recovery (NOT "the recovery partition"):
Command-OPTION-R
3. You'll need your wifi password, and it will take some time to load. BE PATIENT.
4. When you reach the utilities menu, open disk utility.
5. VERY IMPORTANT -- go to the disk utility "view" menu and choose "show ALL devices".
6. Now, on the left, you want to select THE TOP LINE which represents the physical drive inside
7. ERASE it APFS with GUID partition format (Catalina, right?)
8. Quit disk utility and now open the OS installer, and see if it will install...

Thank you! Managed it in the end. Few swear words and a coffee and all is good! Mother is over the moon. Now setting up my 2020 MBP :D Thanks again!
