Hello everybody,

I am the happy owner of a mid-2009 MBP 2,8 Ghz 8GB. I bought it with the small HDD (320 GB) because I knew I wanted a SSD in the long rung.

I have now ordered a Intel 320 SSD 300 GB and a generic "optibay" for my current HDD.

I have everything backed up with Time Machine.

I now have the following questions:

  • I would like to make a completely fresh install with a new username, and then, of course, restore from the Time Machine - is that possible?
  • Do you recommend that I update the firmware for the Intel 320?
  • What should I do first? Install the SSD, and then install OSX from the disk that came with the MBP. Secondly, update everything to Lion from the web and then change to the Optibay solution. Are there any concerns?

I hope that you will take some time to answer me :)

No. Time Machine backups cannot be used for clean installs. This wouldn't make sense, as the Time Machine backup does not have a "clean" copy of the operating system in the first place.

It's generally a good practice to be running on the latest firmware.

You cannot install iOS on a MBP.

But will I be able to restore my iTunes library from the Time Machine backup? That is actually all I need. I have all my other data on a NAS.

Ups :) I meant OSX - thank you!
