I just replaced my boot drive, only to realize that I am not even able to boot to the OSX install disk with the GTX 285 installed... I had the same symptom when I first got the card, because you have to install the evga drivers prior to installing the card.

So... the question... is there anyway to do a fresh OSX install with the GTX 285 installed, ther than putting a card Apple supports?

Hi flyingscott,

My understanding is that you cannot boot using the GTX 285 unless you are running 10.5.7. If your restore disk is 10.5.6 or earlier, you will need to put your original card back into your Mac or you will get kernel panics.

That's exactly what's happening... and I don't have the original card (8800) any more...

Is there a way to slipstream the my 10.5.6 disk and bring it up to date.

OR... I just thought of something, I can make a bootable clone using carbon copy cloner... I'll post if that works.

Update

I ended up using SuperDuper... made a copy of my existing disk, took the old out... all is perfect.

Lesson learned, always have a bootable backup on hand ;)
