Fresh install, only user doesn't have admin privileges.

I just installed Leopard again after my MacBook was misbehaving. Now I want to update the software, and the thing asks for my name and password. I type in everything, and it tells me to enter an admin's name and password.
How did this happen? I thought every time you install the OS, the one user account you set up is always the admin! Is there any way to change this?
