When I recently replaced my boot drive, I ran into the problem that the machine wouldn't boot with the 10.5.x disk. The only real solution at the time was to put a supported card in first, then upgrade... this is because of the third party EVGA drivers.

Anyway... I've had snow leopard laying around for awhile now and think its time to upgrade my mac pro. I plan on doing a fresh install again, but am worried about the missing driver issue again.

Can you preform a fresh install of 10.6 with the 8800 pre-installed?

Absolutely no problems. I'm surprised your 10.5.x disk didn't work.....I started off with an 8800 in my 2008 Mac pro running Leopard, although I guess what happened is that the 8800's came out during Leopard's time as Apple's current OS and some versions will support them whilst others won't.

Yeah... my os disk that shipped with my mac pro (early 2008) is 10.5.1, which did not have support.

Good to know... Thanks
