A long time ago, when the iPhone 4S was still the latest iPhone in the market, I decided to change the rear cover of my iPhone 3G. Something went wrong and it never boot up again. Not a big deal (then) so I just bought a iPhone 2G on eBay and carried on.

Now, I've found that a photo that I thought was saved somewhere in my computer is actually not. So I need to recover the Camera Roll from that iPhone.

Symptoms after rear case switch:

- iPhone got stuck at the "low battery" message, though it was shown like it was actually charging it, but it never ended.

- iTunes detected it as an iPhone in "Recovery" mode. A few hours later, the iPhone wasn't recognized by anything, neither iTunes or System Profiler (under "USB hub" section).

And then, more than two years later, that's how it's now. My theory is that something is preventing the battery from charging. ASAP I'll test the battery and try to charge it externally and power the iPhone and see if it comes back to life. Problems with this is that the LCD+digitizer are missing (gave it to a friend) so I can't use the Home button for anything... because there is no home button.

Things that might be the cause:

- The dock connector. But I don't see how can I have broken that part during the case replacement.

- Logic board. Same as before. How could I've broke that? I'll check it to see if there's any external damage.

- I don't know what else could be, however, if you think is something different, please tell me.

Thing's I've already tried:

- Extracting the photos from the iTunes backup. Seems like the photos are not in any of the backups. I think that photos weren't synced.

- Looking for a data recovery company. I don't have 2500$ spare, so I'll forget about this one.

Thank you in advance.
