Well I had a USB hub that uses a USB to FW cable and so I decided to plug it into my firewire slot with another FW cable. I then plugged my keyboard and mouse into the USB hub. The Caps key lit up and then turned off. Then that familiar electronics burning smell filled the air. Now my keyboard/mouse is no longer among the living. LOL I'm so stupid.

I took it apart and here's the damage :( Obviously there was a voltage difference between USB and FW?

Maybe now I can upgrade to the aluminum ones :D

Such a tiny burn, not even a melt of anything, verdict:

UNSATISFIED

Anyway, bad luck, on the up side, the new aluminium keyboards are bloody lovely.

That don't look good. I have the new aluminum keyboard that "stopped working" and apple sent me a brand new one. Yours is probably no longer under warranty.

Voltage difference ? Yeah, kinda hahaha.

USB is rated 5V at 500 mA (max 2.5 W) while Firewire is rated at 30V at 1.5A (max 45 W). That's why some USB power-hungry gadgets need a separate voltage source.

Cheer.
