friend is going back to Android, will his iPhone 12 Pro(purchased from Apple Store in Tokyo, Japan last year) work in the US? I'm going to guess that it may or may not work with 5g bands on U.S. carriers, but that's fine, since my carrier doesn't offer 5g at all.

he asked me if I would like to have it for free*** (***in exchange for some money, say around US$350). Since I know him to be an extremely OCD person when it comes to taking care of tech gadgets, I'm sure it's in pristine, 99% new condition. '

also, I assume that since it came from the Apple Store over there, if something goes wrong with the phone, I'll have to ship it to him in Japan so he can take it to Apple Store in Tokyo for repairs?

I remember purchasing a Softbank (Japan model) iPhone 4 back in the day and having a dickens of a time getting it to work here in the U.S. I don't know if things have changed. I'd be cautious with any optimism.
