Friend's Unlocked iPhone 3Gs Stopped Working After Update

Hey guys a friend of mine screwed up her iPhone somehow. I don't have an iPhone so I'm just relaying info she tells me.

Cliffs:
- She unlocked her iPhone so she can use it on T-Mobile
- She tried to update it and the phone "locked back up"
- Now she wants to unlock it again so she can get service

I read the sticky, but I'm not sure if that applied to this situation. If you need any more info feel free to ask. Thanks a lot.

FYI there will most likely be an unlock following the 4.2 software release sometime in november. Most likely her problems will be resolved then.

If she updated to 4.1 without using pwnagetool she is SOL until then.

Your frd should just enjoy her iPod touch for Agee month and pray an unlock will come out.

I will take the iPod touch off her hands for 100$ let her know.

No. She screwed up by installing the update. Once the baseband is upgraded, she can't go back.

recover? you mean for her to get a signal again? she will have to wait until a new unlock is released so that she can use it again in T-mobile, just make sure to tell her when Nov comes that she doesn't update it to 4.2 like she did this time or she will be stuck w/out her iPhone until who knows when...

correct! once the BB is updated, it cannot be downgraded even if you use an older fw, the BB (where the unlock works) stays in the most updated version no matter the fw... she will have to wait until a new ultrasn0w is released that can unlock her BB...

Hope she learned something from it.
You never update a JB and unlocked iphone thru itunes unless you know what you're doing. It will always lock it back if its software unlocked.
She will probably have to wait a month or 2 hopefully for a new unlock to be out.
