Is it possible to connect my WD ext. HD to my Router (FritzBox 7140) over USB and use an app to download torrents (like transmission) directly to my ext hdd and not to my macbook first???

Would be very great!!!

I'm not sure what you mean - why do you want to hook up your WD to the router... do you want to cut out your computer from the equation altogether? That's not possible.

You can set your bt client preference - Vuze (not sure about transmission) to have the download folder on your WD, and that's where the downloaded files will end up. But as far as I know, you cannot have the bittorrent data go directly from the router to your WD.
