iPod touch From 1.1.5 to 3.1

I just found a presumed lost iPod touch that has version 1.1.5 on it. I want to purchase 3.1 (which I think is the latest version I can get) but when I hook it up to iTunes it says I have the most current version.

Is it possible to get 3.1 on it? If so, how?

What OS are you on? You need to update to the latest iTunes to get later iOS versions. Lastest is 3.1.3
