Hi, I've got an iPad 3 (not jailbroken) with iOS 5.1 (never updated).
Last night I left my iPad on charge and connected to Wi-Fi and it downloaded iOS 6.1.2 (without asking any permission!). Now I have a badge on the Settings icon and I'm asked to install the update. Here are my questions:

  1. Is it possible to delete the downloaded update without installing (I want to free space on my device and I can't stand the badge on the Settings icon)?
  2. If 1 is not possible, is it advisable to update from 5.1 to 6.1.2 OTA?
  3. Can I perform the OTA update while on battery (90%)?
  4. Do I have to backup my data before the OTA update?
  5. Is there a way to downgrade from 6.1.2 to 5.1 if I'm not satisfied with the update?
  6. What iOS I get if I restore my device after installing the 6.1.2 update?

Thanks

1. You can not remove the update or icon without a jailbreak
2. Yes, you can do the update OTA perfectly well, but I prefer iTunes for software updates though!
3. You need at least 50% battery to install an update OTA. You should be fine with 90%
4. If you can, you should do a backup - iCloud or iTunes is great.
5. You can not downgrade natively.
6. You will still have iOS 6.1.2 because iTunes will download and install the update again
