Long story short, I gave my wife my xs max and I got 11 pro max 256 silver.

So my experience after 1 week of use is:

1. Battery life is amazing. I never had any real issues with xs max tbh but this thing is a beast.

2. Screen is slightly brighter which makes it perfect for Greece (Lots of sunny days) but it’s also kinda yelllowish if you compare it with xs max. Not super excited but it’s good anyway so no complaints here.

3. Speed is the same tbh. I can’t feel any real difference. Both are super fast.

4. Weight can be a problem for some people. You can feel the weight difference but it’s ok for me. My wife (coming from 6 plus) feels the xs max too heavy and 11 pro max unbearable to hold.

5. Camera is a joy to use. Xs max was already solid and now with night mode and soon deep fusion, I’m totally satisfied. I’m taking roughly 20-30 pics per day (I have a 4 year old daughter) so it’s a great improvement.

6. Memory management is the only real problem that I have with 11 pro max. 90% of the time when I use camera and take 1-2 pics, it force closes all previous opened apps. I tested it with different apps and combinations and camera is the only app the causes this issue.

Scenario 1: Opened, Safari , YouTube and started a video, made a phone call , opened photos app and then returned to YouTube, continued video and then back to Safari. Everything stayed in memory.

Scenario 2: The same as 1 but instead of opening photos app, I opened camera and took one picture. YouTube restarted and lost video, Safari reloaded.

Then I tried several combinations like clear all apps then opened one app (YouTube or safari or photos) and then camera. Took one - two pics and returned to previous app. 90% of the time previous app was fully reloading (almost 100% if I used night mode)

So this phone is definitely solid and definitely worth the upgrade from xs max BUT I wish it had 6gb of ram.

That's interesting, and not something I'd noticed before. It does make me wonder if next year's phones will bump up the ram, as I'd expect the cameras will just keep getting better and more resource-intensive.

I’ve definitely noticed the apps reloading after using the camera. It doesn’t bother me too much as I can wait those 1-2 seconds but it’s definitely something I can see bothering users.

All of this has been my experience as well coming from a XS Max. Everything seems better except for RAM management. I actually like the additional heft and the the additional thickness seems to make the camera bump less prominent.

Yeah. I’m just like the Op. gave xs max to my wife.

i really didn’t intend to upgrade at all this year and was planning to skip the 2019 iPhones altogether since the ram was the same

I had gotten 2 iPhone 11 128gb (6.1 inch) att bogo with $400 gift cards since i was opening up a new line for my 9 year son first phone . And my wife was to get other iPhone 11 128gb also

but my wife said the 6.1 size too small and she preferred the iPhone 8 Plus size she had. So she took my xs max.

I had to do some scrambling cause I didn’t want the iPhone 11 128gb either but couldn’t return it since it was part of bogo deal. Found a friend to buy it from me on Verizon. I told it to him for $600 ($750 plus taxes ($50) minus $200 gift card I got. So it was win win for both of us after I unlocked it.

anyways. Yeah. Agree with op. Phone heavy. But battery life is amazing. I’m not that much of a camera person. So probably won’t notice it much. Wished it had 6gb ram. I dunno what apple was thinking. They put 6gb of ram in high end iPad Pro 2018. They could have put 6gb ram to help the 3rd camera.

Pretty similar on all fronts. Although I’m keeping XS Max for business.

Brighter - yes
Yellower - yes
Battery better - yes
Faster - not at all
Camera better - sure but more complicated to me

Overall I would not think this a worthy upgrade if I didn’t need a new phone.
