I have a case and a screen protector however I have bee told I should get a back screen protector to go underneath my case for maximum protection.

Is this a good idea or just unneeded?

It depends on the case you're using and what your habits are. I have a front protector and a soft silicone case. Every few days I take the phone out of the case, check the back and wipe any dust/particles out of the case. That's been enough for me. If you get a hard shell case that's more difficult to remove, then you ay want to get a back protector for peace of mind.

I a have a screen protector on the back, front and sides.... Plus i use a bumper there's no way this thing can get scratch! If i were you yes i would put one on the back also!

Your iPhone can take advantage of using a screen protector on the back while a case is on it because the case can hold dust particles that scratch the back glass panel over time as you use it over the months.

Yup, found that out...
