What current or new apps would you like to see use the front camera?

My list (current):

Camera
Facebook
AIM
Skype
Fring
Ustream
Knocking Live Video
CAMERA-B
Yahoo! Messenger

My list (new):

Tokbox
Chatroulette

I think Apple will provide their own app too, most likely.

iChat, anyone?

EDIT: MSN would be nice too. Not getting my hopes up for that though.

Obviously any app that can take or use a photo or video should be updated to be able use the front camera.

for me Skype, iChat is all I really wish for.

I do hope that when any app requests to use the camera, that a slider will be at the bottom left like the slider on the right for photo or camera, the new slider will be for front or back.

Apple will have to redo the camera ui entirely, with 2 cameras, flash, & zoom... It will need an overhaul.

facebook? if the web based version doesn't support webcams your not gonna see the iPhone app utilising the camera so I wouldn't hold any hope for it

Actually the web based one does support webcams, you can record video and take pics directly from webcam into facebook, since the iPhone app alreadycan upload video from 3GS, so taking from the front camera shouldn't be an issue

I don't think he was referring to video chat in the Facebook IM client, but to the ability to record and post videos of oneself taken with the front-facing camera. Taking video of oneself is nearly impossible with the back camera because of the lack of a self-portrait mirror.

They Better.. something to kill blackberry Messenger.. I really think we are in for a suprise.. We might get a one more thing.. this time around..

I'm not so sure.

I'm wondering how apps that could use either camera will deal with the fact that the front camera is much lower quality than the rear.

Will they pop up warning messages? "Hey, you should take a photo of your friend with the rear camera instead letting them use the front camera on themselves!"

Or will they just say 'screw it' and let people do whatever they want?

I'm sure many will, but knowing Apple I'm sure they'll say 'Quality First!' and NOT update the camera app to use the front camera at all. They'll tell you it's just for video-chatting and not for taking pictures.

Just a guess on my part, but I think it's very possible you may need 3rd party apps to take photos of yourself with the front camera as the built-in camera app might not do it.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but people still use MSN? I thought that platform died a slow and painful death years ago.

Guess you do learn something new every day.

It hasn't been called MSN in a while. It's Live Messenger now. Besides GChat, it's the only IM I use. What do you use?

From my understanding AIM became the leading IM service in the U.S. and MSN became the leading IM service in other regions.

People still call it MSN or Messenger. I don't know anyone that walks around and says "hey, do you use Live Messenger?"

I hate MSN. I use either AIM or Yahoo. Don't like "Gchat" either.
