To start, here's my setup:

Core Duo 1.66ghz Mac Mini, Leopard, all software up to date > optical output > Onkyo TX-SR702

Here's the problem I've encountered. I've found that *some* albums don't put out any sound in Front Row.

I've figured out this much-- on said albums, when the Quicktime or iTunes volume is set to max, I get no audio. If I bump the sound down *just* a notch, suddenly I get sound. Now, in iTunes there's a volume slider, but Front Row has no volume control, because it's feeding to the amp via optical output.

What's strange is that it only does this on some albums and not others. Others can have the volume maxed and not have a problem. The file types are the same-- they're simply Apple Lossless files ripped from CD in iTunes. I can find nothing to distinguish the album that works from the one that doesn't.

I've found a temporary workaround. I can select all the tracks from an album in iTunes, and then adjust the volume for the entire album downwards by the smallest increment possible and then the album will play in Front Row-- thankfully front row is importing that volume information from iTunes. Otherwise, if I load an Apple Lossless file directly in Quicktime, Quicktime defaults to max volume and does not have that volume information, and I get muted audio unless I turn quicktime's volume down.

This just seems odd to me. Any ideas why this is happening? There don't seem to be any settings I can change in the Audio Midi setup that affect this-- besides that only some albums are plagued with this issue.

Just thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone knows why certain tracks don't output audio to my receiver when volume is at 100% for that track.
