Front Row and HD TV Shows

OK maybe someone can help me out. I have a penryn MacBook Pro and didnt want to waste money on a AppleTV. My question is can you watch the HD shows on it while its connected to my HDTV via DVI -> HDMI?

Also, is it possible to buy the shows in Front Row or can I only do it from iTunes?
