Front Row and HDTV

OK. I just purchased a brand new iMac 24 inch and connected it to my 46 inch HDTV. I used the mini-dvi to dvi adapter and a belkin dvi to hdmi cable. So i basically did it so i can watch front row movies and such on the TV. So at first i was just turning on mirroring whenever i needed it to go through my TV. But before I turned off mirroring after watching a podcast and than hit the menu button on the apple remote and my imac screen turned black and front row appeared on my TV. Is there a way to set it up this way?
