This just occurred to me.

With ARM based Macs, bringing 'Front Row' back to the Mac would be relatively easy.

They could make an app that launches the Apple TV interface, which you could control with the Apple TV remote.

As someone who has a 27" iMac in a combined work/relax room, that would be awesome!

It's dead, Jim.

Let's be realistic, there is no chance this will ever come back and it's in no way tied to Arm.

Yeah sure you can use those apps, I already do that, but that's not what I meant. I mean the complete Apple TV interface (The device, not the service) where you can install apps like youtube, plex, vlc, Netflix, your local Live TV app, and browse them easily from the couch with an Apple TV remote.

Front row was a bit silly as a concept. The world has moved on from the phase when apps like this was a bigger thing. It's not a coincidence that Windows Media Center was released and killed off around the same timeframe as Front Row.

As a movie nut, I used to build Windows Media Center PC, in a chassis that looks like home theater equipment no less, and even have Microsoft RC to control it. And I’m quite fond of it.

Now I have 10x better device, an Apple TV. It’s cheaper, cooler, and works more reliably. Never look back since.

Although I agree it is unlikely, I would really like to see Front Row return. Once Macs are ARMed, it seems almost silly to have to buy both a Mac and an AppleTV, especially since the Mac will, ironically, run a much larger subset of iOS software than the AppleTV can.
