I have all my movies / TV shows etc in iTunes so I can use them together with Front Row.

Sometimes, a movie will play just fine in iTunes, but won't play in Front Row.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

And is there a good (third-party) alternative to Front Row?

Thanks in advance

If the movie isn't a format QT can play (such as .mkv) then it won't work in Front Row, either. Plex is an excellent alternative, though. :) It doesn't use iTunes, but it's easy enough to set up and play all your movies/videos/music through.

It was an .mkv, but I converted it to a .mov with QT Pro.

Plex looks sweet, but it's still in the testing phase right?
Do you know any other (maybe even paid) alternatives?

Thanks a lot for your help so far!

There's Boxee, but to get into that you need an invite (I can send you one if you want) and it's also still undergoing testing. There's XBMC, which is mature, but Plex is more or less its successor on the Macintosh. VLC plays every video file I've ever tried, but I don't know if you can launch it with the Apple Remote, so YMMV there. I haven't really tried or heard of anything else, so maybe someone else here can chip in if they know of any other programs/alternatives.

Wow, Boxee looks really cool. I'd appreciate it if you could send me an invitation?

Does it work with your iTunes library?
And can you use your Apple Remote? (or any other remote for that matter)

I haven't messed with it a whole lot, you might have to check around the forums/Internet to see all its capabilities.
