Limewire actually had a Mac-native client until their shutdown. There's also a Frostwire port, as well as Mac versions of a number of other apps that run on the Gnutella network--do a search for Gnutella on MacUpdate. There are also clients for the other P2P systems, some of them very good.

I was under the impression Frostwire was donezo like Limewire. False? I liked it a lot.
 
I used a older version with Snow Leopard and it didn't seem to modify any system files or cause any harm (I have not tested it since the upgrade to Lion).

Also I can't remember if it has iTunes integration, but if it does I would not use it.
