I use the Apple iphone upgrade program. After all the data breaches I froze my credit at the three credit reporting services. With the launch of the next iPhone coming up, and the new loan process for the upgrade, will I need to unfreeze my credit at the three reporting services temporarily to ensure the loan goes through and I can get the new phone? I'm guessing it's a firm "yes," but figure maybe I'm misunderstanding something, potentially. Thanks!

Based on some googling, it seems that it shouldn't be a hard pull if I've already done two years in a row with this plan/Citizen's One. Also, with a freeze on it apparently allows entities that have previously done pulls to still do credit checks. So maybe no freeze lift is actually necessary.

My brother had it frozen and was denied initially. Typically you would, but based upon your research you might be able to pull it off without unfreezing your credit.

Citizens Bank does a credit check through Equifax. If your credit is frozen through that bureau you will literally get a message saying that there is a hold on your credit file and that you will need to unfreeze before getting into the program.

I have been on the IUP for three years, and only the first year was there a hard credit pull. The last two years have been soft checks. I’m assuming that if you stay in good standing, there is no need for them to re-pull your score.

While you may not have to unfreeze, unfreezing would at least prevent any issues arising when signing up again.
