I can't be the only person that has issues with the very basic task of listening to a podcast on a run? (I have an AW Ultra)
From all my testing and analysis, this is the only thing that works for me:
- Go outside
- Disable wifi on control center
- Walk away from my house until it's totally de-paired from the phone and home network (couple hundred feet)
- Wait until the LTE/cell service enables itself (green LTE on control center screen)
- Start podcast
Then I can run.
If I start the podcast while still at home paired with the phone or wifi, it will not smoothly switch to cell when I'm out of range. In fact, the watch (and/or paired phone) seem(s) to have an entirely separate podcast status depending on if I start while home or not. Often what would happen is I would get a bit away from home and the podcast would stop, then when I would try to quit and start it again, the podcast app would immediately quit back out from Now Playing into the menu again. The only thing that worked was completely hard rebooting the watch.
Sometimes re-starting would play back through the phone itself like Airplay (even though Airplay is disabled - Apple Watch pairing seems to bypass this). I also noticed that AirPods have to disconnect and reconnect to your watch when going through the 'wifi/phone to cell' range barrier.
It's just so infuriating man. The fact that it doesn't seem like you can just do the most basic thing I can possibly imagine - start a podcast at home while you're on your way out the door and then run while listening to it - is insane to me.
