I went online Thursday morning around 12:30 AM to check on the price for a Seagate ST3500641AS-RK 500GB RTL hard drive. The price was $159.00. As you can see, the "PRICE GOOD TILL 11/24/06 12:OO MIDNIGHT".

Because we are traveling, my credit card was in another room that I could not get to without disturbing others who were already sleeping, so I figured I would purchase it in the morning. To my dismay, the price had changed to $249.00, the description remained the same.

Do I have any options of obtaining the drive at the $159.00 price?

Extremely doubtful that you can do anything about it. Unless you actually ordered when that price was listed, there's nothing you can do (even legally). Even at $249 that drive is a bargain though.

I have failed in three attempts to purchase from the Fry's on-line store. In all instances, I placed the order, received a confirmation, but never received anything. I called their customer support and remained on-hold for over half-an-hour, and finally gave up. I sent them four e-mails and never received a response. Finally, I took my paperwork to the local Fry's store and asked them WTF. Answer; "That is a different division and we are not involved...no we cannot help".

If you cannot even get something, think of the nightmare trying to return it. There are too many other good places to shop.

I saw on newegg they have a seagate 500gb listed for $149 with 5 buck shipping. It is the OEM version though so you'll have to come up with your own SATA cable.

From what I have been able to find out:

The drive from newegg & OWC (ST3500630AS Barracuda 7200.10), supposedly is noisier & runs hotter than the drive that I am wanting to purchase (ST3500641AS Barracuda 7200.9). Plus my Mac Pro has 2 of the ST3500641AS's, and I want to keep the drives all matched should I decided that I want to create a RAID.

Thanks for the replies.

This Deal Is Now Available Again!!

I was able to make the purchase! The $159.00 was available and they were showing that it was in stock.

I think I might have caught the page originally when they were preparing for the sale and then they removed it until today.

I had the CC info ready this time, plus everyone was awake, so no problems.
