I'm not able to restart my imac g4 in FSCK mode, I'm holding down the apple and s keys but the mac just starts up as normal. I'm trying to fix something tha Disk utilities can't/won't do. I don't have the os x disks either, as the software came on the 2nd hand imac I just bought. Any ideas?

Can you try a different keyboard and USB port? Maybe leave everything unplugged from the power socket for a minute or so to let the capacitors drain first. :)

It turns out you have to wait for the "bong" then hold the keys down. Thanks.
