Ftp and filesharing help

hello so basically i was able to get ftp to work over the internet by doing ftp://externalip:21/
i want to open some of my folders to my friends so i created shared folders with separate accounts to my friends but they can only log in with the admin usr and pass and see the whole hd of the comp and when they use there self assinged user names it doesnt even recognize it
how can i get them directly linked to the folder so all they have to do is type in ther usr anme and pass and then mount that folder?
