FTP issue

I have OSX 10.4 and when i use finder to connect to a FTP site it connects just fine, but i cant upload anything, it says the FTP can not be modified,

yet if i connect to the exact same site with my windows XP machine, i can upload all i want.

What would stop my Mac from being able to upload to the site?

I've never been able to upload without a 3rd party app. I think the upload feature is disabled which to me seems insane but even on 10.5 I cant seem to do it.

It is well-known that FTP access via the Finder is download-only.

FTP from the terminal works fine tho...up and down...sideways if you mistype
