I'm looking at getting a tablet to use during my long commute. I have a mac + Android phone, but Android tablets are dead these days. So I'm looking at replicating my phone workflow with an iPad (either the regular one, or the 11" Pro). I have one problem left to solve.

I have a KeePass password file that contains all my passwords. I'm very protective of it, so I will never upload it to any cloud storage provider (DropBox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, iCloud, nothing). I will also not mail it to myself or attach it to a draft e-mail. It will never leave the local networks that I know.

On Android, I just use an FTP server app on my phone. I FTP into it with my mac, upload the KeePass file and I'm done. My KeePass app can access the file system, so I open the file and I'm good to go. However, on iPad, I cannot access the file system.

How can I transfer such a file securely from my mac to an iPad? Can I use AirDrop for that and guarantee that it passes directly over WiFi without any rerouting? Will MiniKeePass (for example) recognise this file and open it? I've never used AirDrop and I don't find all the answers searching the Internet.

Simply put: connect the iPad to your Mac via the Lightning cable, open iTunes, click on the iOS device if you have to, and select "File Sharing" in the left-hand column, find MiniKeePass in the list and drag the file into the MiniKeePass Documents area. I don't even think you have to sync...I think the file is instantly copied.
