$4.99 a year gets you ad-free, PDF attachments and Photo attachments when you fuel up. how they handled the upgrade though is why I'm starting this thread.
Here's their blog post on the change: http://www.fuelly.com/iosapps/
I'm a GasTracker+ User which was a paid app. 3 week ago, they updated their app:
"Fixed Minor Bugs"
Today I launch the app at the gas station:
So I have to sync my data (which I was already doing), uninstall GasTracker and install Fuelly. I do so and when I do I see this:
Hey...that's an advertisement. Another click later, this full screen ad appears to go premium:
I'll pay for things I use regularly. No problem there and $4.99 a year w/o ads is fine but this developer hid the fact this entire thing was happening.I read all ChangeLog notes before I install an app update. Nothing about this update gave me pause and now I'm using their official app with ads and constant teasers to go premium.
They say force restart the app and ads go away but that's only for Gas Buddy customers.

But hey, no skin off my back. iOS still fully supports web-apps:
-----
if they had emailed me upfront that this was their new model and consolidated apps before making the change and then allowed people to use the app offline and charge for the syncing model or just been more upfront, I would be able to take this situation much easier.
The web-app works great! very fast. no ads. just allows me to add in the fuel stats at the pump and go about my day which is all I wanted.
