I want to get an iPhone 7 and use it with Verizon prepaid service (I don't currently have a smartphone or cellular plan). What I am thinking of doing is buying a full price Verizon iPhone 7 at the Apple Store, then getting a new Verizon prepaid BYOD SIM and swapping it into my new 7. Has anyone else done this? Does anyone know of a reason this wouldn't work?

The Verizon prepaid website does not sell the iPhone 7 with a prepaid plan. Some threads on here say that you can buy a Verizon iPhone 7 at the Apple Store without having, or signing up for, a Verizon plan, and that it will be unlocked. If the phone is unlocked, I figure it should be possible to get it going with a Verizon BYOD prepaid SIM.

By the way, a number of months ago my wife was able to get an iPhone 6 w/ 64g with Verizon prepaid, even though it wasn't listed on the website, by just calling Verizon and ordering it over the phone. I haven't tried this yet, assuming that during the initial rollout Verizon would focus on selling postpaid 7s.
