Full screen apps - ESC key doesn't work

Two new Macs - Mini and MBP - full screen apps on the same new load of ML. MBP...both the ESC key and moving the mouse pointer to the top of the screen will give you ways to drop out of full-screen. On the Mini the ESC key does nothing. Is this a setting that can be configured? :confused:

Working today when it wasn't yesterday, for no apparent reason. :confused:
