High res pictures are full screen, small, low res pictures are small. At least that is what seems to be the case with my phone at the moment.

It was the same thing at my iPhone 5s... Updated last night to iOS 8 and there was no full screen caller pic!
However, now everything is fine. Confused.

It does. This is not a hardware-specific feature. It depends on the size of the photo.

Thanks it wasn't working on mine, just the little circle like in ios 7.1.2

On my 4S is working but not for all contacts.
I think it depends on the size of the picture you choose.

How to enable full screen picture for calling

1. go to a contact

2. edit the picture a bit

3. it will now be full screen.

Funny thing is I did that, and no change.
So a photo taken with the iPhone should be larger enough for a full picture? Right?

Sadly, it looks like contact syncing (i.e. facebook, twitter etc) only provides the small thumbnail public image from the APIs.

This might be the reason so many people are seeing crappy images

If I replace them with Full Screen good quality images, I get full screen caller ID.

I'll assume that FB etc will change the default to full instead of thumb for this eventually.

Okay that might be the reason, I am syncing contacts from my Google account. Will tinker and report back.
