full screen mode in external display

hello.
i have set up my tv as an external monitor for my imac to watch my movie files. i move my movie window into the second monitor, set it to full screen, and it works perfectly. however, as soon as i click on anything in my primary imac screen, the movie window exits full screen mode and shrinks to a regular sized window.

i realize that i can change the window size to fill the screen, but i'm just wondering if there's a way to maintain full screen mode in the external monitor while continuing to do work on the primary.
