Full screen video choppy in Google Chrome on Mavericks?

Random Gecko

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, I've been experiencing choppy full screen video (YouTube) in Google Chrome. It's not constantly choppy, more annoyingly it's at random and happens on average maybe every 45 seconds? It's like it just stutters or drops few frames.

It doesn't happen in Safari but that makes my machine lag a bit more than I'd like compared to Chrome which seems to work fine apart from this. I tried Chrome Canary and it is a little bit better but not as smooth playback wise as Safari which is fine.

Does anybody know if there's a fix for this as it's pretty irritating!

Chrome has been kinda buggy in a lot of directions for me. Audio alerts are choppy as well as video. I dunno what the cause is, but you're not alone.

Which version of Chrome are you running?

My 2011 17" MBP has zero issues with Chrome in any way.

Open Chrome, play a adobe flash video, for example youtube. Rightclick on flash video > Settings > Enable Hardware Acceleration, make sure the box is ticked.

I too have had issues with Chrome since upgrading to Mavericks. Last night my comp scared me when it made an exploding noise when I received an alert from a chat.

Have you given the Chrome Beta a shot?
just google Chrome Beta and download it.

Its always stable and usually has all the optimizations first and new features before they hit the stable channel

Chrome Canary? I've tried it and it's mostly cool yeah. Just wondering if anybody knew why the standard version has issues!

Have never noticed any stutter or lag at all on Chrome youtube on both my 2012 rMBP and Haswell rMBP on Mavericks. What macbook are you using?

Yes, this is a flash issue from my experience. Using Chrome's built-in flash causes stutter. Forcing the HTML 5 player fixed it.
