Question 1:
I was using my iMac as a temporary storage solution. I filled the hard drive of the iMac (about 900GB) with content from an external hard drive, before uploading the content to Dropbox.
After all the content was uploaded, I then deleted all the files. However since doing this, my iMac is now incredibly slow.
I know Dropbox had some issues where files were still held locally, but they are definitely gone. I now have 500GB of space free.
Does anyone have a fix? An explanation would also be interesting!
Question 2:
This then lead me to another question in terms of removing large number of files and performance.
If I had a Mac with a half-full hard drive (not completely full like my iMac), and I moved nearly all the content to an external hard drive freeing up lots of space, would this have any effect on performance?
After the issue with my iMac, I am thinking if I want to maintain performance, is it always best to completely wipe a hard drive and start again rather than simply deleting a large number of files?
