I have my macbook pro hooked up to a an external and I am wondering whether or not I can fullscreen a movie on the external and leave the macbook screen active so I can continue to do work.

As of right now, if I fullscreen the movie, the display on the macbook goes dark.

TIA

You can select it in VLC's preferences or menu bar (Fullscreen Video Device). Mine is greyed out and shows only 1 screen as I don't have an external display hooked up at the moment, but as soon as you do you will see a second video device.

Thanks for the quick response, changing that to the external and unchecking "black out screen" worked!
