fusion 4.1 question?

If I'm shutting down/standby the mac does it matter if I shut fusion or suspend it while a VM is on?

I created a VM in fusion and then I want to delete it so I went to the vm folder in documents i trashed that VM but in the fusion menu I still see that VM what am I doing wrong?
