Fusion 6 upgrade qustion

I'm running Mavericks and up until now have not needed to upgrade to Fusion 6 from 5. I'm thinking of going with windows 8 and based on VMware's marketing it implies I need to upgrade.

So simple question can I run Fusion 5 with windows 8.1 under Mavericks or will I be better suited to upgrade to 6
