If the iPhone is a success and the text entry is as good as apple make it out to be, how do people think apple would move this technology across into their mac range?

I personally think that something similar to an oversized nintendo ds lite would be awesome, so you can use the keyboard area for drawing in photoshop or illustrator, and then switch back to the keyboard layout for keynote, pages and safari etc. Then in the Pro tools the keyboard can take the key colourings from the custom coloured keyboards that are available. Ooooh, and in garageband the keyboard area can turn into the keys of a piano.

Arghhh Im excited about the future now :D

A bit, but its a multitouch screen, so you can use your fingers for text entry and other tactile entry or a stylus for when your drawing.

Check out this item for a really cool look at a multi-touch unit for controlling DAW software http://www.jazzmutant.com/dexter_introduction.php

Might be a tad pricey but, man, does it have 'cool' all over it!!

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about (not exactly what I'd call a laptop), but I think microsoft has got the drop on it (if anyone can afford it that is.) Seems multi touch is fueling everyone's dreams.

M$ has a product called surface, similar to jeff hans multitouch demo
i dont see how this would benefit the mac other than adding pitching into the trackpad. hopefully this is somthing that will be added in leopard and supported by existing multitouch trackpads.

I think it is a really cool idea and something I would love to see - but I am not sure people would prefer it to typing.

The feel of the keyboard beneath the fingers really helps me type correctly whilst I look at the screen for errors. Whilst it may be okay for a smaller device like the iPhone I am not sure a touchscreen to type would be the best way foreward for a computer user.

However it would be great to replace the wacom and could be used in lots of other apps.
