I have an idea for future iPads and i think it's great. It may need some time for the technology to advance so i am definitely not expecting this with 5th gen iPad but maybe with 7 or 8th.

Edge to edge screen that is 12" for the regular iPad and 8-9" for iPad mini. I know we need the bezel to hold it on our hand but full screen is only for when you are in a position where you don't need to hold it. Making a 5 finger half pinch gesture or another gesture or a dedicated button would activate the virtual bezel and make the screen smaller. (9.7" for iPad and 7.9" for mini) This way some parts of the bezel can be functional with virtual buttons, different colors and styles of bezels would make great styling and looks. This eliminates the home button also, and i think 5 finger pinch out works great, if you really need a dedicated button, one can be added to somewhere on the sides. however i can't think of a solution for the front facing facetime camera. Back would also be the slate like the iPad mini.

I think if found a workaround for front camera, this would be an amazing design. You can watch movies, play games or surf the web with a full, huge 12" display while the iPad is at a stand or resting on your knees where you don't need to hold it. Also it can become the iPad that it is know when you need it that way.

What do you think about this idea and for the future iPads? General discussion thread.
