Anyone see this other than me?

All the pictures on my feed are grainy and fuzzy for Instagram on the Xs Max.

Also, pictures in safari are the same. Especially on espn’s homepage and thumbnails when searching for images on google.

Am I crazy?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe if you added a screenshot or something?

Not sure if you will get the same effect if you are not on a Xs Max. Best for Xs Max folks to visit espn.com and report back. On the pic of Big Ben. Super sharp or grainy.

This might be an iOS12 rendering issue. My ipad 10.5 pro is doing the same thing. My eyes cant be this bad lol

just checked and they look brilliantly crisp and colorful on my iPhone Xs Max

Screenshot? Also, does the screenshot I posted about look crisp on your phone?

Do you have problems taking a selfie? The regular and portrait photos with the front facing camera come out fuzzy to me but the rear camera comes out extremely clear.

I just tested it in my living room.

That would most likely be considered a low light environment. The rear camera is better suited to take photos in low light situations. I would expect photos using the front camera to be grainy/fuzzy under the light bulbs in the living room. The stock camera app is most likely pumping up the iso on the camera which is creating the grainy look in your photos.

Download the procam app. Do a manual exposure with these settings with the front camera:

ISO 250
Shutter speed 1/20

Hold your phone incredibly still when taking the photo.

That should give you a better looking photo.

Not just Instagram, but it seems the XS's camera app is (under some conditions) biased toward a faster shutter speed which in turn forces ISO higher, making the image more grainy. See below comparison of iPhone 8 vs iPhone XS. In Settings>Camera, I also tried having Smart HDR on/off -- it didn't make any difference.

These were both hand held, very still, taken under the same conditions. However it's conceivable maybe the XS accelerometer detected motion and jacked up the shutter speed. But the XS camera has optical image stabilization, so if anything it should be biased toward slower shutter speeds in low light than the iPhone 8.

I had the same problem. I restarted and it's working perfectly
