FW Hard drive: Daisy chain

I have three FW400 hard drives all linked together hooked up to my iMac (see sig). The last one in the chain seems to drop off and i have to power cycle it to get it to remount. The drive does not show up in Disc Utility and I do not see a device removal error. Should i get a FW400->800 adapter and use the other port on the iMac to spread the external hard drive love?

Using the other port would be a good idea, I'd guess - maybe it would even be faster? Do all the drives have their own power supply?

I'd try the other port. Do you leave them all on all the time?

Sorry to HiJack Your Theard but..

Does any one know what do do if you what to daisy chain a DVD Burner and External HD if You want to burn files on an External HD using an External DVD Burner????
